The International Office supports international students at the beginning of their studies in Freiberg:

The Welcome Point of the International Office is located in the main university building, Akademiestraße 6, room EG.20.
Opening hours:
- 30 March - 9 April: 9 a.m. - 12 a.m., 1 p.m - 3 p.m.
- 10 April: 9 a.m. - 12 noon
- 13 April: 9 a.m. - 12 a.m., 1 p.m - 3 p.m.
Note: During the Easter holidays on Friday, 3 April as well as Monday, 6 April 2026, the Welcome Point remains closed.
Welcome Guide
The Welcome Guide is a manual for dealing with the numerous formalities after arrival in Freiberg/Germany.
The folder also contains important information about studying at TUBAF, such as exam registration and re-registration for the next semester. Finally, you will find all PowerPoint presentations of the Orientation Events in it.
The Welcome Guide is available in printed form as well as online on the teaching and learning platform OPAL.
(Note: A TUBAF user ID is required to download the files. New students receive this with their enrolment).
Welcome Gift and Questionnaire
International first-year students can receive a TUBAF backpack as a welcome gift. Further information will be published on this website soon. We are asking international first-year students to complete this online-questionaire on the topic ‘How did you hear about TUBAF as a place to study?’ in order to receive the welcome gift. Once you have completed and submitted the online questionnaire, a password will be displayed. Please make a note of this password or take a screenshot and have it ready when you collect your welcome gift.
City registration
Your city registration is the next step after you have arrived in Freiberg and received a rental contract and the confirmation by the landlord. (Please note, that the registration is only possible with the first day of your rental period according to the rental contract.)
The city of Freiberg offers specific dates to register for international students: April 1 and April 8.
You need to sign up for a time slot, if you want to register at one of those dates using the link given below.
Before signing up, please check the following:
- will you have received the rental contract by the mentioned date (and are you already in Freiberg at this date)?
- please note, that signing up for the date is binding
- please expect some waiting time at the day of city registration, even though you have an appointment
- if you already have made an appointment directly with the city registration office at a later date and you sign up for April 1 or 8, please cancel your appointment with the city registration office to open this slot for another person

The orientation week was extremely successful and I am saying this based on the fact that I am completely new to Germany and Freiberg. However, with the help of orientation week events, I got to know many of the peer students of this intake. Additionally, with the help of the orientation week event, I have learned a lot about the university, the city of Freiberg and some great people working here at the university.
