TU Bergakademie Freiberg is participating in the joint #GehWählen campaign of the Saxon student unions and the Saxon universities organised in the State Rectors' Conference (LRK). The Konferenz Sächsischer Studierender (KSS) and the Leipzig Science Network are also supporting the appeal.
"Free elections are an extremely important democratic right. With your vote, students can have a say in what happens politically in Saxony over the next five years. Take advantage of this opportunity!" says Professor Tobias Fieback, the Rector's representative, calling on students to take part in the state elections.
The aim of the #GehWählen campaign is to encourage younger people to exercise their right to vote and thus motivate them to participate in democracy. Voter turnout among voters under the age of 30 has been particularly low in recent years compared to older population groups. The right to vote for national and fedela governments in Germany is linked to German citizenship.
TU Bergakademie Freiberg has already called for people to vote on its social media channels. Further statements from university members will follow. In addition, the call will be placed visibly on central buildings in the coming days.
