The award ceremony took place during the 10th anniversary of the German-Mongolian University of Resources and Technology (GMIT) on 16 June 2023 in Ulan Bator. Prof Carsten Drebenstedt has supported the development of the German-Mongolian University of Applied Sciences since 2012 as subject coordinator for new degree programmes and as a visiting professor.

Since 1999, he has also worked closely with the Mongolian University of Science and Technology (MUST), particularly in modernising degree programmes, training doctoral students and implementing a joint German-Mongolian degree programme. Every year, students from MUST transfer from the joint degree programme to Freiberg University to complete their studies in German. There is also close cooperation with the Mongolian Natural Resources Agency in the form of a scholarship programme in which numerous students chose to study for a German-language bachelor's and diploma degree in Freiberg.

"The diverse contacts and projects with Mongolia are of strategic importance for the TU Bergakademie Freiberg's raw materials sector and are to be consolidated and further developed to increase their visibility," says Drebenstedt, classifying the future activities.
