On 4 June 2025, a joint specialist colloquium with AKITA University from Japan will be held for the first time on site in the Senate Hall of TU Bergakademie Freiberg. The colloquium, which has already taken place digitally twice, is being organised as part of the 76th BHT - Freiberg University Forum.

This specialist colloquium offers a unique opportunity to exchange scientific expertise, develop potential partnerships and promote long-term cooperation between the two universities.

Presentations by the delegation from AKITA University

  • Asst. Prof. Kanji Saito (Applied Chemistry): Design of reaction environment for efficient hydrogen evolution from aqueous cellulose/TiO2 suspension under light-irradiation
  • Assoc. Prof. Hiroki Takahashi (Applied Chemistry): Production of carbon material and its electrochemical activity for water electrolysis
  • Asst. Prof. Keita Itano (Geochemistry): Application of Machine Learning Techniques to Geochemical Classification of Accessory Minerals
  • Prof. Satoru Yoshimura (Applied Physics): Development and fabrication of high-functional Multiferroic BiFeO3-based thin films with high quality and application to low power consumption magnetic devices

Presentations of TU Bergakademie Freiberg

  • Prof. L. Krüger, Dr Mandel (Materials Engineering): Corrosion monitoring
  • Prof. Johannes Heitmann (Applied Physics): Atomic layer processing for electronic devices
  • Prof. Dr. David Rafaja (Institute of Materials Science): Characterisation of thin films and development of thin film technologies
  • Prof. Jens Kortus, Dr. Cameliu Constantin Himcinschi (Theoretical Physics): Probing the orientation and local thermal conductivity of single- and multidomain ferroelastic variants in BiFeO3 by Raman spectroscopy

The specialist colloquium is an important step in the collaboration between TU Bergakademie Freiberg and AKITA University. It offers participants the opportunity to experience innovative research and exchange ideas with leading scientists. The event emphasises the aim of both institutions to promote science and research internationally and to establish sustainable cooperation.
