Around 2,000 employees work at TU Bergakademie Freiberg and around 4,000 students study here. As one of the largest employers in the region and as an educational institution, the university supports students and employees in balancing work and study with family life. The "Family-friendly university" certificate seals this commitment. In 2023, the university once again successfully took part in the independent audit by berufundfamilie Service GmbH, making it one of nine universities in Saxony currently authorised to call itself family-friendly.
"For TU Bergakademie Freiberg, the realisation of equality and the promotion of equal opportunities for all genders is of great importance. The family-friendly orientation should motivate and support all genders equally to work, teach, research and study at the university," says audit officer Professor Silvia Rogler. "The certificate is the result of our long-standing commitment to families on campus."
To realise its goal, TU Bergakademie Freiberg is involved at various levels. It has long been a member of the "Familie in der Hochschule" association and has now been awarded the "audit familiengerechte hochschule" certificate. The target agreement with berufundfamilie Service GmbH also sets out various measures to be implemented in the future.
Studying with children or caring responsibilities
The aim is to make the campus even more child-friendly for students with children or caring responsibilities and to make the degree programmes even easier to study. "With two daycare centres with long opening hours directly on campus, family-friendly semester planning and the new university library with excellent study spots for parents, TU Bergakademie Freiberg already fulfils very good conditions for this," says Prof Silvia Rogler. In order to continuously improve the effectiveness of the measures, students will be regularly surveyed on the compatibility of studying and family life in future.
Family-friendly working at TU Bergakademie Freiberg
The existing measures for the flexible organisation of working hours and location are to be further expanded for university employees. Managers and teaching staff will receive even better training on the compatibility of family and work and will actively promote this. "TU Bergakademie Freiberg ensures individual career development and makes sure that employees with families feel supported at every stage of their lives and relieved if necessary," says Prof Silvia Rogler.
About the "family-friendly university" certificate
The certificate, which is regarded as a seal of quality for work-life balance policies, is awarded by the Board of Trustees of berufundfamilie Service GmbH. The prerequisite for certification is the successful completion of the associated auditing process, in which the status quo of the measures already implemented is determined and the company's individual potential is systematically developed.
