ON AIR - Your podcast studio
Podcasts have become a very popular way of communicating content. It feels like there is now at least one podcast for every niche, and the trend is rising. Science has also discovered this popular method of acoustic, decentralised knowledge transfer and is using it to bring challenging topics from the depths of individual specialist areas to the public.
Podcasts are topic-centred episodes of varying length and design, but primarily word-based and with one speaker and one to a maximum of two discussion guests. They can be used as magnifying glasses to focus on individual topics and explain them with the support of experts.
Podcasts are now also used as a format for examinations. Our learning management system OPAL offers the option of uploading audio objects and integrating podcasts into teaching in this way.
What's missing are your ideas
You can use everything else in the university library.
One of the main reasons for the rapid spread of podcasts is the low technical hurdles required to create audio files. In the ON AIR podcast studio, we offer you a fully equipped workstation in a room with soundproofing that is separate from the reading room.
The following scenarios are possible:
- Single recording via a high-quality studio condenser microphone incl. mic screen and pop protection
- Discussion groups with up to three participants via high-quality studio condenser microphones
- Audio editing at another PC workstation
The studio also has a whiteboard where you can structure your ideas.
The ON AIR podcast studio can be used by all registered users of the University Library. The prerequisite is one-time participation in an introductory workshop, which essentially deals with the explanation of the technical equipment and the audio editing software (Audacity).
Ultraschall-Tutorial
We recommend producing the podcasts with the Ultraschall software. This software is installed on the PC in the studio. Ultrasschall is an open source extension of the Reaper software.
