Family benefits
Families need economic stability. That is why there are financial benefits for all types of families, such as child benefit, the child supplement or the relief amount for single parents.
Detailed information on family benefits such as maternity benefit, child benefit, child supplement and child allowances, parental leave and parental allowance as well as advance maintenance payments can be found on the website of the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth (BMFSFJ).
Maternity benefit
Maternity benefit secures the income of an expectant or young mother during the period in which employment is prohibited for reasons of protection. Maternity benefit can be applied for at the earliest seven weeks before the presumed date of delivery, as the relevant medical certificate may be issued at the earliest one week before the start of the protection period.
Maternity benefit is paid by the statutory health insurance funds during the protection periods before and after the delivery as well as for the day of delivery. Only members of statutory health insurance funds who are voluntarily or compulsorily insured and who are entitled to sick pay receive maternity benefit from the statutory health insurance funds.

Maternity benefit must be applied for:
- From working women who are members of a statutory health insurance fund, from the health insurance fund and from the employer (Human Resources Department)
- From working women, who are members of a private health insurance fund and employees with family insurance at the

Child benefit
Parents who live in Germany and are subject to unlimited income tax liability receive child benefit in accordance with section 62 et seq. EStG (Income Tax Act) as a tax refund. Child benefit is paid irrespective of income. It is staggered according to the number of children.

Parental leave
Parental leave can be used to temporarily interrupt employment and there is protection against dismissal. Each parent is entitled to parental leave to care for and raise their child until it reaches the age of three.

Parental allowance
Parental allowance compensates for a lack of income when parents care for their child after the birth. Parental allowance plus and partnership bonus provide additional support.

Service agreement
To improve the compatibility of work and family life, TU Bergakademie Freiberg has a service agreement on flexible working hours. It offers a more flexible organisation of working hours, which enables employees to better manage their family commitments, among other things.
The Academic Fixed-Term Employment Act
The WissZeitVG represents significant progress in terms of the long-term employment of academics. This also regulates the extension of employment relationships after leaves of absence, in the event of disability, childcare or nursing care, as well as for committee activities.

Part-time and leave of absence options are regulated in the following laws:

Employee-supervisor meetings
In accordance with Section V. of the VwV Service Regulations, employee-supervisor meetings should be held at least once a year. These meetings must address the concerns of employees with regard to a family-friendly personnel policy.
