On 15 November, the DeCarTrans project (short for: Demonstrating a Circular Carbon Economy in Transport along the Value Chain) was not only honoured as "Innovator of the Year", but also won the public vote for the audience award - with over 34,100 votes!
The "Innovator of the Year" award, which is organised by DDW Die Deutsche Wirtschaft, honours exemplary examples of innovative spirit every year. According to its own information, DDW is an open information network of managing directors, company owners and thought leaders in the German economy. The DeCarTrans project (short for: Demonstrating a Circular Carbon Economy in Transport along the Value Chain) aims to further develop a process for producing synthetic petrol from methanol derived from renewable sources. Sustainable synthetic fuels can significantly reduce the emission of pollutants during engine combustion.
The DeCarTrans consortium unites the TU Bergakademie Freiberg with 5 other funded and 9 associated project partners from industry and science. The interdisciplinary collaboration between representatives of the petroleum industry, plant, automotive and engine construction as well as research and development contributes to the short-term and effective reduction of CO2 in the transport sector.
The project is funded by the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport as part of the overall "Renewable Fuels" concept.
