Tests have been launched to use the explosive effect to break down composite materials into their individual components and separate layers from each other (delamination) as part of the Recycling Ordinance (e.g. CFRP and GFRP in the wind power, automotive and marine sectors or functional textiles). These tests are designed to utilise the different impedances of the components and thus their interaction with the shock wave. The experiments are currently taking place in a water bath, which also prevents the formation of dust.
