ITUN@ 6th GA meeting of the Xtract project in Skellefteå 2026

Xtract is funded by the European Union´s Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Program and aims to develop and validate new concepts for Zero Emission Mine of the future. For this purpose, innovative minimally invasive technologies will be developed and applied to enable sustainable and decarbonized extraction, as well as technologies for the rehabilitation of post-mining landscapes. XTRACT holistic approach includes the implementation of various technologies across 4 pilot sites.

One of these pilot sites is the Björkdal Gold Mine, which the participants of the GA meeting visited and where they gained interesting insights into open-pit and underground mining, as well as processing technology and tailings management.
