The members of the Saxony Rectors' Conference (LRK), the rectors of the state universities in Saxony, made important personnel decisions at their meeting on 30 November 2023. Prof Dr Barbknecht, Rector of TU Bergakademie Freiberg, was elected for a third term as Chairman of the Board and will therefore continue his successful work.
Prof. Dr Barbknecht, who has headed the Saxony Rectors' Conference since his first term in 2017, has continued to develop the LRK into a strong voice of the universities in Saxony with great commitment and political sensitivity. The re-election reflects the confidence of the member universities in his abilities and his successful leadership.
In addition to this confirmation, there were also new elections for the positions of Deputy Chair. Prof Dr Alexander Kratzsch, Rector of Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences, was elected Deputy Chair from the group of universities of applied sciences. His many years of experience in applied research and his commitment to practice-orientated higher education make him an excellent choice.
Also, Ms Agnes Wegner, Rector of the Academy of Visual Arts Leipzig, was appointed Deputy Chairperson from the group of art colleges. Her outstanding achievements in the field of art and her goals for the promotion of creative talent will further strengthen the position of the art colleges within the State Rectors' Conference.
"First of all, I would like to thank the outgoing board members, Prof Dr Mark Mietzner, Rector of the Leipzig University of Applied Sciences, and Mr Axel Köhler, Rector of the Dresden University of Music, for their exemplary cooperation over the past three years. The LRK is in favour of university autonomy and the joint further development of Saxony as a cosmopolitan science location in all its facets. I would like to thank my colleagues for the trust they have placed in the Executive Board," said Klaus-Dieter Barbknecht after his election.
The term of office of the new Executive Board begins on 1 December 2023.
