Final workshop TRANSBIO
Many operators of bioenergy plants are faced with the key challenge of how to ensure successful continued operation in the coming years. In particular, the following existential questions are currently driving the bioenergy industry:
- What role will bioenergy play in the energy transition in the future? Electricity & heat? Biomethane? Discontinued model?
- What are the prospects for my bioenergy plant? Conversion? Decommissioning?
- Can I flexibilise?
- Can I combine and pool the plant with my neighbours?
- Is biomethane as a fuel a solution?
In recent years, the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL) has funded a series of post-EEG research projects on these and other questions. The aim was to explore the prospects for bioenergy plants after their 20-year subsidisation under the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG) expires. Possible options for sustainable business models were analysed in the projects and then bundled in the BMEL-funded joint project "TRANSBIO - Transfer Working Group for Bioenergy Plants in the Future Energy System" in order to offer plant operators and political decision-makers concrete recommendations for action. The results from these research projects are diverse and show a broad spectrum of solutions for the very plant-specific operating concepts. In addition, the legal and economic framework conditions for the construction and further development of bioenergy plants are currently becoming increasingly demanding. These results will be presented and discussed at the final event of the TRANSBIO project.
