Utilisation

The legal basis for the use of the University Archive's holdings is the Archives Act for the Free State of Saxony, the Archive Regulations and the University Fees and Charges Regulations of TU Bergakademie Freiberg as well as the User Regulations for the University Archive.

Accordingly, anyone who can credibly demonstrate a legitimate interest has the right to use the archive material of the University Archive, unless restrictions on use - e.g. data protection regulations or the state of preservation of the archive material - prevent this. Once the application for use has been approved, the use itself usually takes place during individually agreed opening hours by personal inspection of the archive documents in the reading room of the archive, Prüferstraße 9, where four user workstations are available. However, the purpose of use can also be fulfilled by providing written or verbal information.

Direct use, the provision of information and the answering of written enquiries for academic, local history or charitable purposes is free of charge, as is the handling of pension law matters or the provision of administrative assistance. No fees are charged even if former or current members or employees of TU Bergakademie Freiberg request information from the documents relating to them. On the other hand, fees are charged for direct use or for providing information and answering written enquiries for private, genealogical or commercial purposes, the amount of which is based on the current version of the TU Bergakademie Freiberg's university fees and charges regulations. Fee reductions are possible for genealogical research within the framework of the fee schedule.

The production of reproductions from the archive material is generally subject to a fee and is only possible if there is no risk of endangering or damaging the archive material.
