The mission statement describes the self-understanding of the employees of the TU Bergakademie Freiberg. It is the result of an open discussion involving people from all areas: research, teaching and administration.
The mission statement takes into account aspects of the university’s rich tradition and the challenges of the future. It provides guidance and motivation for the way we work together.
An important part of our mission statement is our commitment to values such as openness, ability for dialogue and mutual respect. The mission statement helps us to develop the TU Bergakademie Freiberg as the German resource university.
Mission Statement
1 Profile: The interlinked core fields of geology, materials, energy, environment, and economics represent the profile of the "resource university".
Research and teaching at TU Bergakademie Freiberg focus on finding solutions for the global challenges of the 21st century – the sustainable, secure, and efficient extraction, provision, and use of natural resources. We conduct research along the entire value chain, based on interdisciplinary cooperation between mathematics, computer science, natural sciences, engineering, economics, and worldwide partnerships with scientific institutions and industry.
2 Sustainability: Research and teaching are oriented towards the responsible use of resources on the basis of scientific knowledge.
We conduct research and teaching at a high level, taking responsibility for promoting a sustainable resource economy. Together with our partners, we achieve pioneering results, train highly qualified young professionals, and actively promote the transfer of knowledge to industry.
3 Values: Motivation, appreciation, and dialogue are the principles of our collaboration.
Transparency, dialogue and cooperation enable us to interact across disciplinary boundaries. TU Bergakademie Freiberg offers an excellent infrastructure and a creative working atmosphere for researchers and students, providing an optimal environment for work and study.

As the world's oldest mining science university, we acknowledge the achievements of prominent scientific figures and preserve values and traditions as the foundation for the continuous development of our university.
