The University Council shall make recommendations for profile building and improving the performance and competitiveness of the university. In fulfilling its tasks, it shall take into account the higher education development planning of the Free State of Saxony pursuant to Section § 11 (1) and the target agreements pursuant to Section § 11 (2) SächsHSG.

Tasks of the University Council

 The University Council shall make recommendations for the development of the profile and improvement of the performance and competitiveness of the university. In fulfilling its tasks, it shall take into account the higher education development planning of the Free State of Saxony pursuant to Section §11 (1) and the agreements on objectives pursuant to Section § 11 (2). 

It shall be responsible for

  1. Appointing the three members of the university council for the selection committee pursuant to § 87 (6) sentence 2 number 1,
  2. Applying to the Extended Senate for the removal of the Rector from office,
  3. Confirmation of the deselection of the Rector by the Extended Senate,
  4. Granting of consent to the proposal of the Rector for the appointment of the Chancellor,
  5.  Approval of the development planning of the university,
  6. Approval of the economic plan of the University and the Faculty of Medicine,
  7. Formulation of principles for the use of positions and funds according to § 12 paragraph 6 sentence 2 and the use of reserves according to § 12 paragraph 6 sentence 4,
  8. Approval of the annual financial statements and the management report of the University and the Faculty of Medicine,
  9. Discharge of the Rectorate and the Dean's Office of the Faculty of Medicine,
  10. Statement on the intended information of the public by the rectorate according to § 88 paragraph 3 sentence 1 number 12,
  11. Opinion on the report of the Rectorate according to § 11 paragraph 6 sentence 4,
  12. Appointment of the auditor of the of the auditor of the Faculty of Medicine on the proposal of its dean's office in agreement with the State Ministry and the State Ministry of Finance
  13. Opinion prior to the conclusion of target agreements

The University Council may give its opinion
           1. on the adoption of resolutions on the basic regulations and amendments thereto, and
           2. on the establishment, discontinuation and substantial modification of study programs.
