Thank you for your interest in the Technische Universität Bergakademie Freiberg (TUBAF).

Important: Students from Argentina, Colombia, and Mexico are requested to inquire with the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) or their home university regarding the application process and requirements. The application for KOSPIE at TUBAF is directly done through the DAAD.

After the DAAD has sent us your application documents, we are checking them for completeness and eligibility criteria. We will reach out to you via email. Please only complete the steps below in case of a positive reply from us.

For your complete application, we require the following documents:

1. Application form (see download section)
2. Photograph (used for your student ID card)

Please submit both files as a scan copy to the marcus.dietrich [at] tu-freiberg.de (International Office) at TUBAF.

If there are no issues with the documents, they will be forwarded to our admissions office for them to issue your admission letter accordingly. The admission letter is necessary for your visa appointment.

Your room at the Studentenwerk Freiberg is probably perfectly located for you to make the most of student life in Freiberg, with faculty buildings, lecture theatres, the university library and the refectory all within walking distance.

Leaving your flat for the day couldn't be more exciting, with the vibrant streets of the historic city of Freiberg. Soak up the historic atmosphere of this beautiful town and discover its many treasures and delicious food. Stick around until the evening and you'll find plenty of trendy bars, restaurants and other activities to enjoy.

The price range extends from 210 to 380 euros/month including additional costs, depending on the apartment's equipment and size.

As a KOSPIE student, you are insured by DAAD's private health insurance company, Continentale Krankenversicherung a.G.

Should you have questions, please contact the DAAD insurance office at versicherungsstelle [at] daad.de.

Once you are insured by DAAD's private health insurance company, you can use it to get the exemption from statutory health insurance. Please marcus.dietrich [at] tu-freiberg.de (contact us) for any queries you may have.

In terms of the enrolment process, you need a certificate stating that you are exempt from the obligation to be insured under the statutory health insurance scheme. This is a mandatory step and cannot be skipped. You must apply for this “exemption certificate” by following the link:

The German public health insurance digitally notifies us about the successful exemption from statutory health insurance.

When you are enrolled at TU Bergakademie Freiberg, you may attend free German courses offered by the International Centre during the respective semester.

We offer different language levels according to the Common European Framework of Reference for languages (CEFR).

• A1.1, A1.2,
• A2.1, A2.2,
• B1.1, B1.2

A/B.1 = during the winter semester (Oct 1st till March 31st)
A/B.2 = during the summer semester (April 1st till October 31st)

The successful participation at the courses will be awarded with 4 ECTS.

There is no tuition fee at TUBAF. The semester fee amounts to 94 euro per semester which is payable to complete your enrolment. Further information and details are available in your admission notice.

Your issued visa will typically be valid only for a few months. Therefore, it is important to schedule an appointment with the Foreigners' Registration Office in a timely manner. However, this is only possible after you have registered your student living address in Freiberg at the Resident Registration Office.
