With our Microcredential Semiconductor Technology, we offer an introduction to the essential, practical work steps of the semiconductor industry and further training for those already familiar with it. Our programme includes the teaching of theoretical and practical learning content through lectures and hands-on work in our cleanroom.

The lectures offer the most relevant lecture sections of our university module portfolio on semiconductor physics and semiconductor device technology for practical application and are tailored to teach the most essential basics necessary to understand the manufacture and characterisation of semiconductor devices as concisely and practically as possible.

The training programme lasts one week, around half of which is spent on practical work on the relevant machines and equipment in the cleanroom. Here, a metal-oxide semiconductor capacitor (MOS capacitor) is manufactured under supervision, which is then electrically characterised.

We accompany these steps with the simulation of complex processes in corresponding semiconductor components in operation using TCAD (Technology computer-aided design) software. This allows extensive tests and diagnostics to be carried out, which are both an instructive part of the training and useful for characterising the manufactured structures.

Contents of the Microcredential Semiconductor Technology:

  • Semiconductor technology (clean rooms, metrology, Si wafers, cleaning, oxidation, CVD & PVD coatings, lithography, patterning, wet & dry etching, doping, metallisation, planarisation)
  • Semiconductor devices (MOS capacitor, MOSFET integration and scaling, p-n junction)
  • Clean room practical course (production and electrical characterisation of MOS capacitors)
