Joint specialist colloquium with AKITA University during the 76th BHT

Joint specialist colloquium with AKITA University during the 76th BHT

On 4 June 2025, a joint specialist colloquium with AKITA University from Japan will be held for the first time on site in the Senate Hall of TU Bergakademie Freiberg. The close partnership between the two universities has a long tradition that goes back to the commitment of Freiberg professor Curt Adolph Netto. The 150th anniversary of this collaboration was celebrated in 2021.

During the BHT - FREIBERGER UNIVERSITÄTSFORUM 2025, this specialist colloquium offers an ideal platform to further strengthen the connection between the two institutions. The main topic of this year's colloquium is: "Innovative approaches in materials and energy sciences".

Numerous high-calibre lectures by scientists from both universities will shed light on these topics from different perspectives. AKITA University is planning contributions on hydrogen production, electrochemical processes and machine learning, among other things. The TU Bergakademie Freiberg will present papers on corrosion monitoring, thin-film technologies and the characterisation of ferroelectric materials.

The specialist colloquium not only ensures a scientific exchange at the highest level, but also offers the opportunity to initiate new cooperation projects and further expand existing partnerships.

We cordially invite all interested parties to be part of this unique event!

Presentations by the delegation from Akita University:

  • Prof. Kanji Saito (Applied Chemistry): Design of reaction environment for efficient hydrogen evolution from aqueous cellulose/TiO2 suspension under light-irradiation
  • Prof. Hiroki Takahashi (Applied Chemistry): Production of carbon material and its electrochemical activity for water electrolysis
  • Prof. Keita Itano (Geochemistry): Application of Machine Learning Techniques to Geochemical Classification of Accessory Minerals
  • Prof. Satoru Yoshimura (Applied Physics): Development and fabrication of high-functional Multiferroic BiFeO3-based thin films with high quality and application to low power consumption magnetic devices

Presentations of TU Bergakademie Freiberg:

  • Prof. L. Krüger, Dr Mandel (Materials Engineering): Corrosion monitoring
  • Prof. Johannes Heitmann (Applied Physics): Atomic layer processing for electronic devices
  • Prof. Dr David Rafaja (Institute of Materials Science): Characterisation of thin films and development of thin film technologies
  • Prof. Jens Kortus, Dr Cameliu Constantin Himcinschi (Theoretical Physics): Probing the orientation and local thermal conductivity of single- and multidomain ferroelastic variants in BiFeO3 by Raman spectroscopy
