SINReM is a two-year Master programme which contains 120 ECTS credits and is taught in English language. It is organised by Ghent University in Belgium (acting as coordinating university), TU Bergakademie Freiberg in Germany, and Uppsala University in Sweden. The successful participant will obtain the joint diploma of International Master of Science in Sustainable and Innovative Natural Resource Management. The programme received the EIT Label as a quality seal awarded to top Master and PHD programmes by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology.
The programme focuses on innovative and sustainable production, recovery and management of primary and secondary resources. The curriculum includes mining, exploration and extraction processes to recovery and recycling technologies (e.g. clean technology, CO2-neutral recovery of resources from waste water and waste streams). The thematic scope covered by SINReM also combines scientific-technological fields with economic, environmental and entrepreneurial aspects. Technological feasibility, sustainability and circular economy receive great attention in the holistic teaching and learning processes.
The complete SINReM programme including the course list is available via https://sinrem.eu/program/

During their first year students will study together at Ghent university (welcome, courses in circular economy, clean technology, resource recovery technologies, etc.), TU Bergakademie Freiberg (introduction course to the entire process chain of rare resources, summer school “resources chemistry”) and Uppsala University (advanced courses in raw materials, innovation management and entrepreneurship, etc.).
Key Entrepreneurial Skills
In their second year students will choose one of three specialisations taught at one of the partner universities: Resource recovery and sustainable materials at Ghent University, Geo-resource exploration at Uppsala University or Sustainable processes at TU Bergakademie Freiberg.
As resource engineer, you can continue with an academic career (university or research institute), become advisor or consultant, or start up your own business in the resource industry. You can work for:
- companies in chemistry, exploration, and green energy;
- enterprises for machinery and plant construction;
- metal-working industry, and ceramics;
- environmental and circular economy, etc.
