Every winter semester, TUBAF puts together a new benefits package to help you get the most out of your first few weeks at university.
Conquer the university city with the TUBAFcard!
Are you new to the university? Then you can look forward to receiving a welcome gift when you start your studies at TU Bergakademie Freiberg.
All newly enrolled students receive the TUBAFcard when they start their studies. The card is topped up with a credit of €40.00 and can be redeemed at over 80 locations in Freiberg - shops, catering and leisure facilities. With the TUBAFcard, you can experience the university city of Freiberg in all its facets.
An extra with the TUBAFcard: You can use it to pick up the Unisport-Schnuppercard free of charge and try out various sports courses at the start of your studies. You will need to show your student ID to collect the card.
First semester students for the winter semester 2024 will receive the card:
- at the information fair at the start of studies on 1 October 2024 in the new lecture hall centre / university library
and after 1 October - at the admissions office in Akademiestrasse 6 on the ground floor during opening hours: Tuesday: 13:00 to 15:30 and Thursday: 09:00 to 11:30
The card is topped up with €40.00. The credit can be redeemed at cooperating locations in the city of Freiberg, which are over 80 locations in Freiberg. You can check the credit here.

Finding affordable housing with the housing scout
In Freiberg, there are many opportunities for prospective students to secure suitable accommodation for the duration of their studies. However, at the beginning of the lecture period, the coveted student accommodation offered by the Freiberg Student Union can run out.
In this case, the Studentenwerk Freiberg collects offers of suitable accommodation from private tenants: Small apartments, single rooms at best furnished or in a shared flat with a built-in kitchen. All offers are checked beforehand.

Planting the future with your studies
The TU Bergakademie Freiberg is committed to protecting tree species and is reforesting the degraded forests in Saxony and the Global South. A tree is planted for every new student and every new employee.
Every enrolment counts
Complaining about the desolate state of habitats is not enough. By signing up, everyone has the opportunity to take action! Every enrolment plants trees, protects biotopes and binds CO2. We have already reserved 3.6 hectares of land for 10,000 trees - register now and become part of the campaign!
Overcoming the hurdles of studying with the Study Sisters
The mentoring programme aims to support female students in a trusting environment at the start of their studies and give them the opportunity to share their questions, ideas and perspectives with experienced mentors and like-minded people.
In concrete terms, it offers support when starting their studies by means of
- mentors in advanced studies
- small peer groups of female first-year students
- workshops on managing their studies
- alumni evenings to exchange ideas with interesting personalities
