Metal forming – tradition, creativity, perfection
The Institute of Metal Forming is headed by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Ulrich Prahl, who was appointed to the Chair of Metal Forming Technology on 1 October 2017. This continues the long tradition of teaching in the field of forming technology at the TU Bergakademie Freiberg, which was established in 1928 with the appointment of Prof. Emicke to the Chair of Rolling Mill Technology and Transport.
The Institute’s research and teaching focus is on production engineering for semi-finished metal products, concentrating on the influence of forming processes on the material and on the interaction between forming technology and the development of properties in the formed material. This covers all areas of metal forming – from forging technology through flat and wire rolling to the numerical simulation of materials and processes.
