Whether it's just a few days, several weeks or even months – spending time abroad during your doctorate can make a big difference. Those who dare to look beyond their own horizons gain new perspectives and inspiration – not only for their research work, but also for their personal development.

During this evening, doctoral candidates will share their experiences abroad. What did they encounter, and how did this journey contribute to advancing their research project?

We discuss various options for integrating a stay abroad into your doctoral studies – be it as a participant in a summer school or conference, or as a visiting scientist at another research institution. How can this be organised, and how can it be financed?

The event is held in German.

The KlarText-Prize for Science Communication recognises PhD graduates who can explain their research clearly and precisely without using jargon. Awarded by the Klaus Tschira Foundation, the prize recognises outstanding examples of successful science communication. Participants present their dissertation in a way that is accessible to a general audience. Two formats are available: a Klartext article or an infographic that visually explains the content. Applications are open to researchers who completed their PhD in 2024 or 2025 and conducted research in one of the following fields: Biology, Chemistry, Geosciences, Neurosciences, Computer Science, Mathematics or Physics (including related disciplines). Applications must be submitted in German. Nationality, institution or current career stage are irrelevant.
