Welcome to the Biology / Ecology research group 

We are particularly concerned with the renaturation potential of biocrusts, ecosystem processes and the dynamics of communities in post-mining landscapes. This involves fundamental research into populations of (endangered) species (plants, insects, vertebrates) and their application in the field of nature conservation as well as the development and management of habitats and landscapes. In the field of resource research, interactions between plants and soil are investigated for phytomining (“mining with plants”) of raw materials such as germanium and rare earths.
