The focus of the research and teaching activities of the Professorship for Environmental and Resource Economics lies on economic, political, societal and technological issues in the areas of environment, climate and energy. While this includes game-theory concepts, the Professorship also develops practice-oriented approaches for the efficient and sustainable use of natural resources in national and international contexts. Emphasis is placed, for example, on modelling the voluntary provision of public goods based on game theory, on the economics of climate change adaptation and mitigation as well as on modeling various policy effects (multiple effects/benefits).
Headed by the holder of the Professorship Prof. Dr. Rübbelke, the team has conducted studies and research projects on sustainable energy and resource use, the economics of climate change and the water-energy nexus which have resulted in high-ranking publications.
To act on the belief that we possess the knowledge and the power which enable us to shape the processes of society entirely to our liking, knowledge which in fact we do not possess, is likely to make us do much harm.
Friedrich von Hayek (from his lecture to the memory of Alfred Nobel, December 11, 1974)
