Welcome to the Chair of Automated and Autonomous Systems (AAS)!
The Chair of Automated and Autonomous Systems at TU Bergakademie Freiberg, which was founded in March 2025 and is headed by Prof. Robert Weidner, specialises in research in the fields of automation, robotics and human-machine systems for various applications, e.g. in production, logistics and trade. Previously, Prof. Robert Weidner held the Chair of Production Engineering at the University of Innsbruck for 6.5 years and has been Group Leader of Robotics at the Laboratory of Production Engineering at Helmut Schmidt University/University of the Federal Armed Forces Hamburg since 2014.
The professorship is concerned with the development and integration of state-of-the-art technologies into the world of work in order to increase productivity, improve ergonomics or secure resources. One focus is the research of technical systems for the physical relief of manual activities (support systems/exoskeletons) or for the automation of production processes. In this context, methods and concepts for development, evaluation and optimisation are being researched.
The AAS is part of the Profiling Initiative 2025 "Engineering of Cyber Physical Systems" (intelligent networking of processes, systems and machines) at TU Bergakademie Freiberg.
Head of the professorship: Univ.-Prof. Dr.-Ing. Robert Weidner
