The research areas of our group led by Prof. Dr Bernhard Jung lie, on the one hand, in virtual and augmented reality (VR/AR) and, on the other hand, in Robotics. We also conduct research at the interface between VR/AR, Robotics and AI, such as the development of intelligent robotic capabilities in virtual environments.

Current topics in the field of virtual reality include, amongst others, the visualisation of large data sets in immersive environments, interactive geovisualisations and the use of VR in teaching and training.  Our Virtual Reality Laboratory houses XSITE, a VR CAVE with a resolution of 50 megapixels. Research topics in the field of augmented reality include, for example, novel human–computer interfaces for the planning and maintenance of technical equipment and systems.

In Robotics, we are interested in collaborative robots (‘cobots’) and are researching machine learning techniques to make human–robot interaction safer and more intuitive. Another key area of focus is outdoor robots capable of operating autonomously in challenging environments, for example to collect environmental data quickly and reliably.
