Students rate TU Bergakademie Freiberg University as the best small university in Germany. With first place among the most popular universities with less than 5,000 students, they secured the "StudyCheck Award 2026" for Freiberg University. The top rank is based on an evaluation of the portal "StudyCheck" and thus on the assessments of the students themselves. The result reflects the innovative teaching, individual support and practical relevance of the STEM degree programmes at TU Bergakademie Freiberg.

In Freiberg, young academics can find everything from basic research to practical applications on one campus. This results in very good conditions for research- and practice-orientated studies and optimal support for young scientists. Students can already work on their own research projects independently and in small groups during their undergraduate studies.

The ranking "Most Popular Universities 2026" is based on reports published on StudyCheck.de for a total of 583 universities from the past calendar year. The ranking of the individual universities is determined by the so-called score value, which is calculated from the star rating and the recommendation rate of the students. In 2025, 138 reviews were submitted for TUBAF with an average recommendation rate of 99% and a star rating of 4.38 out of 5 stars. The score is therefore 9.33 out of a maximum of 10 (details on results and methodology).
