SEG Honorary Lecture Tour 2012
On Monday, the 2nd of April 2012, we were proud to welcome the first lecturer in the history of our SEG Student Chapter - Dr. Ian F. Jones. The TU Bergakademie Geophysical Society was stage of the 2012 Europe Honorary Lecture Tour.
The topic of the lecture was "From imaging to inversion". Ian Jones gave an outline about the process of hydrocarbon exploration, necessary knowledge and prospective developments. This very interesting talk was held in front of an audience of more than 50 students of all Semesters, PH.D. students, professors and guest audience. Even though the wide range of pre-existing knowledge in the audience, the talk was informative and understandable for every semester. Afterwards we got the chance of an informal meeting with him to discuss the lecture, tasks of a university, career opportunities and the next activities of our Student Chapter.
In addition to his lecture, Ian Jones got the opportunity for an overview of the work of our Institute of Geophysics and Geoinformatics, especially of the work of our seismic working group.
We hope Dr. Ian Jones enjoyed his visit in Freiberg and we thank him for that interesting and informative talk. Furthermore we want to thank the SEG in general and especially Judy Wall, who organized the whole Europe Honorary Lecture Tour. We are hoping to take part in other lecture tours as well, in order to repeat this very interesting experience.
