  • 1975 -1979     Research assistant with the Institute of Public Finance of the Free University of Berlin (West Germany)
  • 1979 - 1981    Research assistant with the Chair for public finance at the University of the Federal Army (Hochschule der Bundeswehr) in München (West Germany) 
    Tutoring, Research on public economics
  • 1981 - 1984    Senior research assistant at the Centre for economics of the public sector of Leyden University (Rijksuniversiteit Leiden), (Netherlands)
    Programming the education tasks of the institute, preparing course material, research on public economics and regulation
  • Since 1983 part-time instructor at Webster University in Leiden (Netherlands campus of Webster University of St. Louis, Missouri)
    Voluntary activity as secretary of the board of the Europan Association for Law and Economics – EALE (until 1990)
  • 1984 - 1990    Fellow at the International Institute for Environment and Society at the Science Centre Berlin (Wissenschaftszentrum Berlin)
    Research on environmental policy and technology development, international environmental policy, environmental policy in the European Community

    Since the Fall term of 1995 appointment (20 %) as professor of environmental economics at Rijksuniversiteit Limburg (now renamed Universiteit Maastricht) (Netherlands)
    Teaching, coaching students, some research with MERIT (Maastricht institute for research on industrial technology) and METRO (Maastricht institute for transnational legal research)
  • 2000 - 2017    Professor of environmental management at the Freiberg University of Mining and Technology (Germany) (Technische Universität - Bergakademie Freiberg)
