Electives

German language lectures

The objective of learning German for students is to achieve the level of DSH. Teaching experience shows that this requires course attendance to the amount of 8 credit points. Students who achieve the level of DSH. with less than 8 credit points must select other courses as free electives for these credit points. These courses can be (other) language courses or any other courses offered by TU Bergakademie Freiberg or partner universities. The amount of credit points obtained through German language courses and free electives taken all together must be 15 credit points.

Wirtschaftliches Deutsch and Wissenschaftliches Deutsch are considered to be courses within the body of free electives and they are accessible to IMRE Students if they have achieved the DSH 2 level. Ultimately, the language teachers decide on admission.

Core electives

Every IMRE student must take courses from the core electives list to the amount of six credit points.

(See Minutes of the IMRE Committee Meeting No.24)

Registration for the exam of a free elective

The student registers and he takes the exam for a module and, if he likes his grade, he declares the module as a free elective. If he is not happy with his grade, he registers and takes the exam of another module, hoping that this exam will result in a better grade, and, if that is the case, he declares the second module as a free elective. The first module with the “bad” grade is no free elective but is considered as an “additional module” included in the transcript of records but with no effect upon the final overall grade.

Internship:

A successful Internship is equivalent to 7 CP of so-called free electives. The IMRE Committee must approve applications and students must find a professor who is willing to grade the scientific report (assignment) after its completion. Students can do more than one internship as a voluntary activity.
