VPN access for Windows

Important information

  • The Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client functions with Windows Versions 7 / 8 / 8.1 / 10.

Installation guide


Start the Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client

Launch the Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client.
In the selection window please select "vpnserver.vpn.tu-freiberg.de".


Press "Connect" to open the following window. "World" should be selected, otherwise please select. Then enter your login data.


Deactivate Autostart

If you do not want the AnyConnect client to be loaded automatically at startup, you can disable it as follows:

Windows 7

msconfig startenStart the system configurations program by entering "msconfig" in the search field of the Windows start menu.


Systemstart deaktivierenRemove the entry "Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client". Confirm by clicking "OK".

 

 


Windows 8

Taskmanager startenRight-click on the taskbar. Open the task manager.


Autostart deaktivierenNow select "Auto start" tab. There you will see the list of the applications that are automatically loaded when the system starts. Right click on the "Cisco AnyConnect User Interface". Select "deactivated".


Start the Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client

Start the Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client by clicking on the new symbol on the right side of the taskbar.
Make sure that the entry "vpnserver.vpn.tu-freiberg.de" is present. If not, insert it.


Click "Connect". In the popup window at Group select „world“ and insert your login data. Click "OK".


The symbol now has a little lock on it. The login was successful, VPN is active and you are now able to change your password, log in to self-service portal etc.


Troubleshooting

Error: When using Internet Explorer the following error message appears during installation:

Failed to install AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client 4.1.06020 because the process is running in protected mode and cannot perform an install. The secure gateway must be added to the Trusted Sites Zone in Internet Explorer. A VPN connection cannot be established.

Solution A: Use a different browser(Firefox, Chrome, Safari etc.)for the installation.

Solution B: Add the website "https://vpnserver.vpn.tu-freiberg.de" to your trusted website list:

Einstellungen "Internetoptionen" des Internet ExplorersIn the Internet Explorer menu select "Security" tab under "Tools"/"Internet Options". Here open "Trusted Sites" in the upper section. Click on "Sites" and enter "https://vpnserver.vpn.tu-freiberg.de" in the "Add Website to Zone" field. Then click on "Add" and "Close". Repeat the installation after restarting your browser.
