Green Open Access

Qucosa Freiberg: The Document Repository of the TU Bergakademie Freiberg offers you the possibility to publish your work (e.g. your thesis) for free on an Open Access basis. Self archiving of many other publication types is also possible. Besides, on the Saxon Document Repository Qucosa you can get access to scientific documents from several Saxon institutions.

GEO-LEOe-docs: a joint project between the TU Bergakademie Freiberg and the Göttingen State und University Library, is a subject-based repository for the fields of geoengineering/mining, mine surveying, metallurgy and earth science. You can find information in the online help of GEO-LEOe-docs.

Recommendations from our subject librarians on other subject-specific repositories are listed on our Specialized Information sites.

Self-archiving according to § 38 Abs. 4 UrhG

Since January 1, 2014, the self-archiving right for scientific publications has been anchored in the German copyright law and applies despite any contrary wording in the publishing contract. Authors of academic articles in compilations can make the accepted manuscript version available one year after first publication, e.g. on an institutional repository. This refers to all scientific publications that are the result of research activities funded at least half by public funds (DFG, BMBF, EU or other third-party funds as well as non-university research institutions).

Publishers' policies on self-archiving

Many publishers allow the self-archiving of scientific works, e.g. as preprint or postprint, on institutional or disciplinary repositories. The SHERPA/RoMEO database informs about publishers' policies regarding Open Access. At best, however, authors have negotiated their publishing contracts in such a way that they retain the rights to archive their works on a non-commercial repository or the document server of their own institution.

We have concluded contracts and made membership agreements with some publishers. This gives researchers of the TU Bergakademie Freiberg advantages in the area of open access publishing.

The information platform iRights.info gives you further information and recommendations on the legal situation of self-archiving.
