Technology law

Study concept

In addition to sound engineering and scientific knowledge, research and development projects often also require legal expertise. As part of the planning and realisation of a research or other industrial facility, extensive approval procedures are regularly required in order to obtain an operating permit.
Questions of industrial property rights become relevant when innovations and new scientific findings need to be adequately protected. In addition, the realisation of a project can also be associated with liability risks. It is then important to be able to legally assess these in order to protect them.

The four-semester Master's degree programme in Technology Law (Magister legum/Master of Laws (LL.M.)) focuses on teaching core competencies and skills that are important for the assessment of technology law issues and provide the essential tools for later career entry. The course content ranges from general issues of private, public and European commercial law to in-depth knowledge of labour, commercial and corporate law as well as intellectual property law and specific issues of energy law and plant approval in environmental, nature conservation and construction law. Participation in three legal seminars enables students to specialise in their own areas of interest.
