Nanotechnology focuses on nanomaterials, their properties, their production and application. The Graduate engineer "Nanotechnology" is able to grasp various questions about nanosystems and develop it independently. His or her qualifications include all areas of research, development, manufacturing and quality assurance, useful for medical technology, chemical industry, semiconductor industry, information and communications electronics, automotive supplier companies or in energy and environmental industries.
The Diploma course "Nanotechnology" conveys broad physical, chemical and materials science fundamentals in particular to nanoscopic systems as well as knowledge of the manufacturing technology of nanomaterials and their technical applications.
The main course deepens knowledge on nanomaterials and nanoelectronic components. Basic applications are discussed in the mandatory courses and other applications, e.g. to catalysts, data or energy stores, in elective modules. In addition, each student is individually specialized by elective modules for deepening the gained knowledge, e.g. in biosensors, nanoanalytics or nanoparticles and -fluids. In addition, special attention will be paid to the ability to develop new solutions independently, including work in in small research groups.
In the first four semesters, the necessary basics are taught in mathematics and physics, chemistry, electrical engineering, informatics and materials science. Courses on manufacturing of nanomaterials, property evaluation and nanoelectronic components introduce nanotechnology.
With the fifth semester, special lectures begin, which illustrate the relationship between material-structure-function for nanoelectronic components and sensors. Exercises and laboratory courses, also in the cleanroom, complement this.
The range of courses is characterized by a wide choice, so that individual interests and inclinations can be pursued. The courses include first scientific work in the evaluation of scientific literature, an half-year internship in an industrial company or a non-university research institution, including abroad, an individual research laboratory and the final diploma thesis.
Each student determines his or her own specialization! This consists of:
- Application-oriented elective modules
- Individually selectable modules for personal specialist specialization
- A literature study, a laboratory and an industry internship and the final diploma thesis on individually selected topics
