    • On 20 September 2017, we were once again visited by a television crew. In the swimming pool of Weißenborn (close to Freiberg), we provided an insight into the scientific diver training in our annual summer diving camps and answered the many questions posed by moderator Janett. Of course, she also lended us a hand with some of the underwater exercises, and thereby found out that they are not all that easy to perform.

    • Scientific diving plays an integral part in exploring our planet. After all, two-thirds of the earth are covered by water. Well-trained scientific divers are able to take specific underwater samples, photographs and videos in depths of up to 40 meters. The TU Bergakademie Freiberg has recognized the huge potential of scientific diving, and therefore - as one of only two German universities - offers various special courses on this topic. Our reporter Katja Schmidt spoke with the two heads of the Scientific Diving Center, Prof. Merkel and Prof. Fieback, in order to find out about the scientific diver training at the TU Freiberg.

    • On 19 June 2014, a team of the German TV channel MDR accompanied the scientific diving instructors of the Freiberger SDC for a training session in the local swimming pool “Johannisbad”. The weekly performed exercises are essential to mastering the scientific diving techniques; fundamental diving skills are a prerequisite for all training participants and serve merely as a tool for conducting scientific tasks under water.
