Funding phase I - Goals

  • Further development of promising research results and transfer into research-based start-ups
  • Development work to prove technical feasibility
  • Development of industry-oriented prototypes
  • Consider development risk
  • Developing a business plan and founding a company
  • Application procedure with expert jury

Who receives funding?

  • Research teams at universities and research institutions (applicant is the university)
  • A maximum of three scientists and technical assistants + one person with business management expertise 

How is funding provided?

  • Duration 18 months (for highly innovative and particularly time-consuming development projects in individual cases duration of 36 months)
  • Personnel costs for a maximum of four staff positions
  • Material costs of up to € 250,000
  • Transfer of the IP and the acquired objects after the end of the project term at start-up-friendly conditions 
  • Applications must be submitted to Project Management Jülich (PtJ) via SAXEED by 31 January and 31 July of each year.

EXIST Start-up Grant

Goals

  • Support innovative, technology-oriented or knowledge-based start-up projects from universities and research institutions
  • from the business idea to the preparation of a business plan
  • development of marketable and innovative products/services
  • Targeted preparation of the start-up
  • Orientation of the start-up projects towards follow-up financing

Requirements

  • clear unique selling propositions & good economic prospects of success
  • Application, mentor, workplace through university
  • Project-accompanying start-up support through start-up networks
  • Start-up must not have taken place before the project begins
  • Applications can be submitted at any time to Project Management Jülich (PtJ) via SAXEED.

Who receives funding?

  • Scientists from universities and research institutions (university is applicant)
  • University graduates and former research assistants (up to five years after graduation or leaving the university)
  • Students who have completed at least half of their studies at the time of application.
  • max. three team members (one technical staff member with vocational training or one graduate possible up to five years after leaving the university)

How is funding provided?

  • Funding as a non-repayable grant
  • Funding period of one year
  • Securing of living expenses via scholarship:
    • 1,000 € per month for students
    • 2,000 € per month for technical staff
    • 2,500 € per month for graduates
    • 3,000 € per month for founders with doctorates
    • Child supplement: 150 €/month per child
  • Material expenses: 10,000 € for individual / max. 30,000 € for team start-ups
  • additional 5,000 € for consulting / coaching services

SAB technology start-up grant

Goals

  • Support for the foundation of young, innovative companies in promising technology areas in the Free State of Saxony
  • Start-up idea must show sustainable prospects of success

Requirements

  • Start-up project must be the main business basis
  • technical product or process innovation to be implemented in the own company (including production, marketing/sales) or
  • new innovative services with high customer benefit and clear unique selling propositions on the market.

Who receives funding?

  • Students & graduates up to ten years after leaving university
  • two - three team members resident in Saxony

How is funding provided?

  • The founding of a young innovative company in a promising field of technology through the granting of a personal scholarship
  • Funding as a non-repayable grant
  • Funding period of one year
  • Securing of livelihood via scholarship:
    • 1,000 € per month for students
    • 2,000 € per month for technical staff
    • 2,500 € per month for graduates
    • 3,000 € per month for founders with doctorates
  • No material expenses
