Orientation days for new international students

During the orientation days from 28 March to 6 April, the International Office will inform all new students from abroad about interesting facts about living and studying in Freiberg at the beginning of their studies.

During several information events in English and German it will be explained how studying in Freiberg is organised and which formalities such as rental contract, bank account or health insurance have to be observed.

Experienced students also provide beginners with step-by-step instructions on how to create a timetable and on the OPAL e-learning platform. Information is also provided about cultural standards in Germany and the expectations professors have of students.

The programme also includes a city rally through Freiberg, where members of the Working Group of Foreign Students (AKAS) together with volunteers present important places on campus and in the city as well as the history of the university city in an entertaining way. The best teams win prizes, which are presented at a final bowling evening.

In addition to the orientation days, the International Office offers a Welcome Point in Akademiestraße 6, which is the first point of contact for new international students. Among other things, they will receive a comprehensive information folder in German or English.

Preparations for a successful start to studies in Freiberg begin weeks before the start of the semester. Through the honorary Buddy programme, first-year students get an experienced student at their side, who accompanies and supports them during the first days in Freiberg and at the university.
