On Tuesday, June 26 2018, after a construction period of one and a half years, TU Bergakademie Freiberg has inaugurated a pilot plant for the production of thin-walled cast steel at its Foundry Institute. The institute invested approx. 700,000 euro in the hall and half a million euro in equipment.

TU Freiberg’s project partner, Borgwarner, also intends to make a contribution (in the millions of euro) in equipment and staffing over the next five years.

IllustrationThe research at the new plant is integrated in the Faculty of "Material Science and Material Technology, where Material scientists and technologists are jointly developing new materials and techniques. In the new pilot plant, new steel material for high temperature application of turbo loaders and the including foundry techniques will be developed. „The new materials have got excellent properties, but are difficult to assilate. To optimize both, is the primate target of the project", said Prof. Gotthard Wolf, Director of the Foundry.

Three Persons are cutting a red tape„For our University, the application oriented development of technology is also a top goal which should pursued", the rector of the TU Bergakademie Dresden, Prof. Dr. Klaus-Dieter Barbknecht, said. „Especially our Foundry Institute is very well connected with the steel industry and often got a strong support by third means.“ The plant has already been visited at 22 June by the American consul general, Timothy Eydelnant from Leipzig, at his information trip at TU Bergakademie Freiberg.
