Honorary Doctor of the TU Bergakademie Freiberg becomes Honorary Professor in Novocherkassk
Dr. Frank Michael Engel received the title for his special services and personal contributions to the development of science and education, for the preservation of the Lomonossow cultural heritage in the Federal Republic of Germany and for the establishment of the Lomonossow Memorial in Freiberg/Saxony, which has also become a centre of cooperation between the SRSTU and the TU Bergakademie Freiberg.
Furthermore, the special achievements for the good German-Russian relations with the Archangelsk region, the homeland of Lomonosov, are emphasized. The "Dr. Frank Michael and Marianne Engel Foundation" financed the construction of a school sports field for summer and winter use in the village of Lomonosovo, expanded the "Old School" from Lomonosovo into a congress and education centre and since 2017 has organised and financed an annual holiday and educational trip for pupils from the Lomonosovo/Cholmogory region to Western Europe.
The high recognition at the South Russian University, which is geographically far away from the field of activity of Dr. Frank-Michael Engel in the north of Russia, speaks for the great popularity and positive perception of the unique commitment of the founder couple.
Dr. Frank Michael Engel was appointed honorary doctor of the TU Bergakademie Freiberg in 2009. The Faculty of Economics thus honoured the special merits of the Diplom-Kaufmann in promoting industrial archaeology at Freiberg University.
The commitment of the Dr. Frank-Michael and Marianne Engel couple has borne fruit for the Erzgebirge mining region, for business and science in Saxony and for the Saxon cities of Oelsnitz, Chemnitz and Freiberg. Without the financial support and personal commitment of Dr. Frank-Michael Engel, the World Heritage title would have been unthinkable.
The TU Bergakademie Freiberg congratulates the honorary professor Dr. Frank Michael Engel on his well-deserved tribute in Russia with a hearty Glück Auf!
