From Vienna to Freiberg: Bergakademie Appoints New Professor of Geoinformatics and Geomathematics
The 36-year-old has been an assistant professor at the Computational Science Center at the University of Vienna since 2014. Previously, he was Deputy Professor at the Faculty of Mathematics at the University of Siegen. Prof. Gerhards received his doctorate in mathematics from the University of Kaiserslautern in 2011, where he also worked as a research assistant from 2008 to 2014. In 2012 and 2013, he was a research fellow in Sydney, Australia.
Prof. Gerhards’ research focuses on the mathematical analysis of geoscientific problems (especially in the area of potential-field problems related to geomagnetism and gravity) and the development of numerical methods to evaluate underlying data.
