On May 8, the latest ranking of the Centre for Higher Education (CHE) was published. TU Bergakademie Freiberg rated very highly in the fields of chemistry, business administration, and geosciences, as well as in mechanical engineering, process engineering and energy engineering.

In chemistry, the Bergakademie achieved very good results in the categories "Degrees in reasonable time" and "Support at the beginning of studies", placing it in the leading group of universities. "I am very pleased with the recognition our chemistry courses have received in the ranking," said Prof. Dr. Jens Kortus, Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry and Physics at TU Bergakademie Freiberg. "This excellent result reaffirms our approach of individual mentoring, which places the utmost emphasis on the students at our university. In the German diplom, the Bachelor's and the Master's degree programs, students are involved in research at an early stage and, thus, receive true practical training. This is made possible by the dedication of our teachers and the enthusiasm of our students."

TU Bergakademie Freiberg also achieved top ratings in the field of geosciences – and in particular, the domains of international orientation and the general conditions for study. These included the range of courses on offer and how the courses are organized. In the field of research, the Bergakademie scored highly with its practical and highly relevant future-oriented profile as a resource university. The amount of research funding raised per scientist and the high number of doctoral candidates per professor testify to Freiberg's strength in depth in research, and evidence the advancement of young scientists.

"The results of the CHE university ranking confirm the attractiveness of TU Bergakademie Freiberg for prospective students. Through practical individual support and the intensive integration of current research results and research projects into teaching, we educate our students in a very practical manner for successful careers in industry or science. This is demonstrated by the top positions achieved by our graduates in numerous German and international companies and renowned research institutions," explained Prof. Dr. Rudolf Kawalla, Pro-Rector for Research at the Bergakademie.

The CHE University Ranking

The Centre for Higher Education (CHE) University Ranking is the most comprehensive and detailed ranking system in the German-speaking countries, in which more than 300 universities and universities of applied sciences are examined and over 150,000 students are surveyed. As well as collating facts on study, teaching and research, the ranking includes student assessments of the conditions for studying at their university. Each subject is re-evaluated every three years. The complete CHE University Ranking is now available on ZEIT CAMPUS ONLINE at www.zeit.de/che-ranking or in the current ZEIT Study Guide (available in shops for EUR 8.95, or at www.zeit.de/studienfuehrer).
