What is e-learning?
E-learning is a coined expression with a broad spectrum of interpretation. Simply put, e-learning deals with a collection of definitions each of which is related to the comprehensive usage of information and communications technology in a teaching- learning interface.
When is it useful to adopt e-learning?
E-learning becomes essential in instances, when the need to improve teaching arises i.e the need for increasing the quality of the general study conditions. Digital media should be introduced if
- Lectures are oriented and organised in an activity-based manner (e.g activation and increasing the problem solving and practical skills of students) and
- the quality of time between instructors and students needs to be increased.
What are the implications of e-learning at the resource university?
Surveys conducted over the years among graduates, has proven that the TU Bergakademie Freiberg is a traditional physical presence classroom-based teaching university, but with a strong focus on the integration of theory and practice in learning, which is seen in the distinguished student services available. These characteristics and very good teaching, need to be strengthened by complementing teaching methods with e-learning. E-learning at the TUBAF supports the integration of available e-learning tools and services in traditional physical presence-based teaching. Thus, adopting the same quality criteria as known for good teaching in general:
