Refugees from Ukraine
Dear students or prospective students from Ukraine,
TU Bergakademie Freiberg has made it possible for you to continue or finish your studies in Germany in a straightforward way, and would like to offer you the opportunity of a lateral entry.
We will make every effort to contact your home universities for mutual recognition of your academic achievements. Moreover, it is also possible for you to take up a new course of study in Germany.
All incoming applications will be reviewed generously and obligingly. If the required skills for your studies are still missing, we will give you the opportunity to catch up on them alongside your studies with us.
- Before the application
- Guest auditors (free auditors, Вільний слухач)
- Financial support possibilities
If you are still in the Ukraine, please apply directly as described under point 2 (application).
Once you have obtained a (temporary) residence permit according to Section 24 of the German Residence Act (German: “Aufenthaltsgesetz”), you may apply to our university to begin or continue your studies (please refer to point "2. Application" below).
If you do not yet have a residence permit according to Section 24 of the German Residence Act (AufenthG), you may also initially register with the district of Central Saxony provided you have already entered Germany. For more information, please refer to www.landkreis-mittelsachsen.de/das-amt/behoerden/ukraine-hilfe/rechtliches.html.
Please make sure to use the forms provided in either German or Ukrainian language. Please send your completed form by email to the Administrative Department for Foreigners and Asylum Affairs (German: "Stabsstelle für Ausländer und Asylangelegenheiten"): integrationlandkreis-mittelsachsen [dot] de. The authority will then liaise with you regarding social benefits and your residence permit.

First of all, please check on your own whether your Ukrainian certificates entitle you to study in Germany (university entrance qualification) by navigating to the uni-assist's website.
An overview of our degree programmes is available on our website.
TUBAF offers 13 Master's degree programmes taught in English. In the overview, these are labelled with a British flag icon. Detailed information is available by clicking on the corresponding degree programme's check mark.
Please submit your application via the university’s university’s application portal "APP". You need to register and upload application documents that you have available.
- high school diploma (in original language and translation)
- previous study certificates (in original language and translation)
- German or English language proficiency certificates
If any certificates are missing, please prepare an informal letter stating that the certificate XYZ is missing and give the reason (e.g. documents remained in the Ukraine or were lost during your escape from the war).
If the examination of your educational documents reveal that you are not entitled to study at a German university, you will be provided with further information and first be referred to a preparatory course.
If your academic aptitude is determined, but German and/or English language skills and/or certificates are not available or are insufficient, we will pursue an individual solution. This could be a referral to a preparatory course (German: "Studienkolleg"), the arrangement of language courses, an orientation study course or contact period of study.
If all admission requirements are met, you can be enrolled directly in a degree programme. An application for recognition of academic achievements from your home university can be submitted to the examination board of the respective degree programme.
Ukrainian refugees may apply as a guest student (free auditor, Вільний слухач) with us. To do so, please complete the required application form and submit the completed form to our Admissions Office via e-mail – zulassungsbuerozuv [dot] tu-freiberg [dot] de. The application should only be submitted after you have entered and registered in Germany.
You may receive financial support in addition to social benefits. A prerequisite is the completed registration according to Section 24 of the German Residence Act (Aufenthaltsgesetzt).
