ARGE K2-NRW gains COVESTRO AG as new partner
The Consortium for a Circular Carbon Economy North Rhine-Westphalia (ARGE K2-NRW with INEOS, REMONDIS and RWE) has been working intensively for a year to evaluate the feasibility of a sector coupling of waste, chemical and energy industries in NRW to produce new chemical products from domestic carbon resources. In September, the consortium is happy to announce that COVESTRO AG –a strong-selling, international publicly traded company – has joined the consortium. The new partner’s market knowledge and proximity will make a valuable contribution to the work of the ARGE K2-NRW.
COVESTRO hosted the one-year status meeting of ARGE K2-NRW on 10th September at its Leverkusen site. Under the lead of Institute of Energy Process Engineering and Chemical Engineering (IEC, TU Bergakademie Freiberg), project partners discussed insights obtained from the one-year research activities and jointly identified the next steps. Following the meeting, project partners also had the chance to visit the innovative pilot facilities of COVESTRO.
Dr. Roh Pin Lee (Project Lead ARGE K2-NRW) commented: “It is essential to identify the common interests and potential synergies between the project partners in the chemical utilization of domestic carbon resources (i.e. waste and coal). Only through a cross-sectoral collaboration of the energy, chemical and waste management industries we can successfully achieve a circular carbon economy and prevent a waste of carbon resources.” This collective goal underpins the next two years of research work in the ARGE K2-NRW.
