Institute of Electronic and Sensors Materials

Institut für Elektronik- und SensormaterialienThe Institute of Electronic and Sensor Materials is part of the Faculty of Materials Science and Technology. It was founded on 01 March 2007 and is located in the building of the former Institute for Ceramic Materials in Gustav-Zeuner-Straße. continue

Institute of Materials Engineering

Institut für Werkstofftechnik

The Institute of Materials Engineering investigates the mechanical properties of metals and composite materials in the whole range. In addition, research is carried out in the fields of surface technology, powder metallurgical material synthesis and additive manufacturing, and corrosion. A further focus is on thermal electron beam technologies. The properties of the materials are always correlated with mechanism-oriented investigations of the microstructure. continue

 Foundry Institute

Institut für Gießerei

The Foundry Institute is part of the Faculty of Materials Science and Technology. Since 24/25 March 2014, the institute has been back in its old domicile "Haus Formgebung" on Bernhard-von-Cotta-Straße after a building modernisation. continue

Institute of Metal Forming

Institut für Metallformung

The Institute for Metal Forming is located in the "Haus Formgebung" on Bernhard-von-Cotta-Straße. The main focus of research and education is on the entire forming technology production chain from solidified starting material to the finished component. In this way, we are primarily dedicated to the manufacture of semi-finished products using the most modern forming processes. A large plant park with test facilities on an industrial scale enables research and knowledge transfer for innovative applications in the forming technology of today and tomorrow. continue

Institute of Iron and Steel Technology

Institut für Eisen- und Stahltechnologie

The Institute of Iron and Steel Technology is part of the Faculty of Materials Science and Technology. It is located in the Ledebur Building on Leipziger Straße. The teaching and research focus is on the metallurgy of iron and steel production as well as steel materials and their development. For this purpose, the institute has a wide range of research facilities and equipment in two experimental fields and several laboratories. continue

Institute for Nonferrous Metallurgy and Purest Materials

Institute for Nonferrous Metallurgy and Purest Materials

Research and education of the institute focuses on the field of non-ferrous metallurgy, especially hydro- and pyrometallurgy, and recycling. This includes entirely production, refining and sustainable handling of non-ferrous metals. A further focus is on the production of modern semiconductor materials and the development of innovative and environmentally friendly processes, particularly facilities for the extraction and refinement of non-ferrous metals. Research is specialized on materials recycling in the sense of an integrated and sustainable circular economy. continue
