Besides the academic education, the Chair for Underground Mining Methods is capable, with its wide spread range of competences, to execute all types of research in the field of underground mining and related subjects. These research projects are financed by German and international research funding bodies as well as a multitude of industrial partners.

The focus of the research is on optimization and extension of established working procedures in underground mining, research and service tasks for the guarantee and improvement of security and working conditions of miners, development and testing of novel machinery and equipment for underground working as well as further future-orientated tasks which can be summarized under the titles “mining without humans” and “optimization of the exploitation of deposits”.
