History of Technology and Industrial Archaeology
Institute of Industrial Archaeology and History of Science and Technology, Chair of History of Technology and Industrial Archaeology
We, at the Institute of Industrial Archaeology and History of Science and Technology (IWTG), focus our teaching and research efforts mainly on the subjects Industrial Archaeology and History of Technology. Furthermore, we work in related historical fields, such as history of science, economy, environment, and innovation.
Both our study programs, Industrial Archaeology (Bachelor) and Industrial Heritage (Master), are unique in Germany. We are cooperating with universities, the private sector, and different branches of the state administration. As a result we are able to offer our students a practice oriented education. It qualifies them to work in diverse environments, such as (industrial) heritage preservation, museums (focusing on industry and technology), public relation for businesses, science journalism, or architect’s and engineer’s offices.
