Project description

Recycling is one of the most important topics for research at INEMET. Especially processes concerning critical elements like precious metals are in the focus. Within RECYCALYSE a new recycling strategy will be developed depending on the composition of electrocatalysts synthesized by the project partners. The main idea behind RECYCALYSE is to manufacture new catalysts for proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzer systems with increased performance and reduced environmental footprint. INEMET is focusing mainly on the development of hydro- and pyrometallurgical steps for the recovery of platinum group metals (PGMs) in the composition that can be reused for the production of new catalysts. In this way, the recycling scheme will enable the circular economy, in which the valuable metals will be recovered and reused, reducing costs of the overall system and decreasing the dependence on the critical raw materials imports in Europe.
