In view of an increasing competition concerning metal-based raw materials the development of innovative technologies to enable an efficient utilization of primary and secondary metal resources is of special interest.

The Institute for Nonferrous Metallurgy and Purest Materials is active in the sector of production and refining of a large variety of nonferrous metals. In the fields of pyrometallurgy, hydrometallurgy and semiconductor materials, numerous, partly unique, laboratory and pilot plant scale facilities are available to perform research projects with the aim of process development and optimization as well as for student education. In addition, a modern analytical laboratory with a wide range of instruments for investigations of solutions, solids and surfaces are available.
