Institute Director & Professorship for Forming Technology

The Institute of Metal Forming is headed by Prof. Ulrich Prahl, who also holds a professorship for metal forming technology at the institute.

Prof. Prahl studied "Technical Mathematics" at the TU Clausthal before he graduated from the Institute for Lightweight Construction and Plastics Technology at the TU Dresden. He received his doctorate in 2002 at the RWTH Aachen University at the Institute of General Mechanics and subsequently headed a scientific working group on integrative material simulation at the Institute of Ferrous Metallurgy at the RWTH Aachen University.

In 2017 he followed the call of the TU Bergakademie Freiberg to the professorship for forming technology at the Institute for Metal Forming. The main focus of Prof. Prahl's work is in the field of numerical material and process modelling and production technology for metals, which are characterised by a strong coupling between material and process.
